Government fail to uphold Constitution

Wednesday, August 31, 2005 Government fail to uphold Constitution - Letter to editor Western PeopleSIR – I am sure that it is an utter disgrace to have men of this calibre and quality in jail because they are trying to defend their own and their families lives. The regime that allows this scandal to take place warrants a full investigation. Where are the members of the government? On Holidays? Look at p. 170 of the Bunreacht, Article 45.no 1.”That the State shall strive to promote the welfare of the whole people by securing and protecting as effectively as it may a social order in which justice and charity shall inform all the institutions of the national life”. Is this happening?. Read all of Article 45. Is this what the men who gave of their lives in 1916 died for? Davitt, O’Brien, Dillon amd Parnell strongly upheld the wishes of the Irish people – “The land of Ireland for the people of Ireland.”Not the land of Ireland for multi-nationalists and greedy, selfish men. And our government have allowed this to happen. All we hear is ‘the law’. How many of those who appeared at the tribunals abide by the law. Where is our President, our Taoiseach and Tánaiste? Remember that the Mayo people are the greatest there is. They have come through a landlord system and survived. Good luck to the Rossport Five.Go n-éirí an tádh leo de shíor.
