Enterprise Energy is to delay the laying of an offshore pipeline to the Corrib Gas field, to give itself time to address the concerns raised by a Bord Plenála hearing about the project.
Enterprise's Irish managing director Andy Pyle said that because the Bord Plenala evaluation process will take some months, it was felt prudent to postpone the laying of the pipeline until the status of the onshore terminal site was confirmed.
Work on the pipeline was due to start later this month, but subject to planning permission being granted for the gas reception terminal at Bellanaboy, Co Mayo.
The company hopes the first gas will be brought ashore in late 2004.
Enterprise says a detailed review of the entire project has been undertaken following the recent takeover of Enterprise by Shell.
