Plans to develop the Corrib Gas Field have been given official approval by the Minister for the Marine, Frank Fahey. The field, which is about 40 miles off the Mayo coast, was discovered in 1996 and was the first significant find of gas off the Irish coast in over 20 years. The first gas is expected to come ashore in January 2004.
