There will be three major events in Ireland to mark the 12th anniversary of the execution of celebrated anti-Shell campaigner Ken Saro Wiwa and eight other Ogoni activists- Baribor Bera, Saturday Dobee, Nordu Eawo, Daniel Gbokoo, Barinem Kiobel, John Kpuinen, Paul Levura and Felix Nuate at Port Harcourt Prison Nigeria on November 10th 1995.

1. Saro Wiwa commemoration march, Time: 7AM Bellanaboy Car Park Venue: Erris, County Mayo. On Friday morning November 9th there will be a commemoration march to Shell's proposed Bellanaboy refinery site in Mayo (starting from the carpark at the crossroads 500m from gate number one). This event will also mark exactly a year since the baton charge against against a similar march to remember Saro Wiwa. The Shell to Sea campaign has always accepted and employed the legitimate use of non-violent direct action as a tool of opposition to the proposed project, and acknowledges the right and duty of every individual to seek justice and show opposition to the project in a responsible way. In contrast to Truth and Non-Violence, any methods employing deception and/or verbal and physical assault on any person, by any individual, are to be condemned without reservation.

3. Saturday November 10th DublinCandle-lit vigil at Shell Headquarters DublinTime 5PM - venue Corrib House 52 Lwr Leeson Street Dublin 2 12 years to the day since the executions of Ken Saro-Wiwa, Baribor Bera, Saturday Dobee, Nordu Eawo, Daniel Gbokoo, Barinem Kiobel, John Kpuinen, Paul Levura and Felix Nuate at Port Harcourt Nigeria at the behest of Shell, activists will once again gather at the headquarters of Shell Ireland to lay a wreath and remember the brave campaign for justice that led to these nine innocent men being hanged.
Sister Majella McCarron of Ogoni Solidarity Ireland will say a few words and there will be (weather permitting) the first Irish screening of a short film on the trial of Saro Wiwa- "Don't Let Shell Kill Again".
Speaking about the events, Sister MAjella McCarron, who worked closely with Ken Saro Wiwa in the Niger Delta, said: "It is appropriate that we commemorate Ken Saro Wiwa and the Ogoni Eight in Ireland, because we are presently witnessing Shell's campaign in County Mayo, and the tactics being used are markedly similar to what we have seen the company do in other countries, including Nigeria."
