"The Government have clearly sent the message to Shell, ‘you can do whatever you want’. Fortunately due to protest, the refinery remains unconnected to the gas field. If, as Shell planned, gas had been flowing by now, we would potentially all be dealing with a gas leak and explosion.”
Opponents of the Corrib gas pipeline in Co Mayo have announced plans to hold a national demonstration in Dublin later this month as part of their ongoing campaign.
The rally by the Shell to Sea group will be held on Saturday, February 24th. Last month, the Environmental Protection Agency announced its intention to grant a licence for the refinery being built in Bellanaboy by Shell. Local residents have been holding a series of demonstrations in the area to highlight their ongoing opposition to the project, which they say puts the community in danger.
