Shell's only argument for Corrib, is that it will give Ireland 'security of supply'. However, this requires that Ireland bids against buyers in other countries and pay the full international rate. If the international price of gas were to double over the next decade, then the price that Irish consumers pay for gas will double. In the current economic situation, the Irish State will be forced to borrow money to buy back gas that was given to Shell for free.”
Cristian Domínguez, the Secretary of Defence of Natural Resources and the Environment section of the Bolivian Confederation of Peasant Workers (CSUTCB) will speak at Inver Community Centre at 2pm on Sunday 22nd November.
Mr Domínguez will speak on his work on the nationalisation of Bolivian natural resources. He will also speak on the involvement of Irish security company, IRMS, with right wing mercenary elements in eastern Europe, and antigovernment paramilitary forces operating in Bolivia.
Mr Domínguez is one of the Bolivian negotiators at the Copenhagen climate change talks starting soon.
