24th May

An epic day in Ireland! We are woken at 4.45 by the ferry cafe/shop opening announcement after a brief sleep. Up on deck for sunrise over cork point as Julia (our ferry) makes a few nifty manoeuvres to dock. Terns swoop and duck in the ferry’s churning wake.

Four Dublin Shell to Sea campaigners have chained themselves to the stairwells inside Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources as an action in solidarity with Pat O’Donnell. A number Shell to Sea activists are currently occupying the offices of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources at 29-31 Adelaide Road, Dublin 2.

The four members of Shell to Sea are draped in chains and locked together in order to symbolise the ongoing imprisonment of Erris fisherman and prominent Mayo Shell to Sea campaigner Pat O’Donnell.

Dublin Shell to Sea to mark Pat O’Donnell’s 100th day in prison with protest at Shell HQ on Friday 21st May

Dublin Shell to Sea will hold a protest at Shell HQ on Lower Leeson Street at 5pm on Friday 21st May. The protest has been called in solidarity with imprisoned Erris fisherman and prominent Shell to Sea campaigner Pat O’Donnell (52) and coincides with his 100th day in prison.

Last February Pat was sentenced to seven months in prison for alleged breach of the peace and allegedly obstructing a garda. His imprisonment followed a series of incidents in which Pat faced regular harassment from both Gardaí and members of Shell’s private security firm I-RMS.

Rossport Solidarity Camp June Bank Holiday Gathering

By:

The fifth annual Rossport Solidarity June Gathering returns for another weekend jam-packed with workshops, music, family activities, discussions, and fun! The gathering is on the June Bank Holiday weekend, from the 4th-7th of June, in North Mayo.

The fight against Shell continues, and they've been put on the back foot by the decision of An Bord Pleanala which found that their plans posed 'an unacceptable risk' to health and safety. So they have to try a different route, and drill up to 80 boreholes in the Special Area of Conservation of Sruwaddacon Estuary – but they'll be met with resistance!

Why a ‘Breakdown in Trust’? A brief look at the Frontline Human Rights Report

By:
Living in Rossport

Last week Frontline, a prominent Human Rights organisation released a report entitled ‘Breakdown in Trust: A Report on the Corrib gas dispute’. The report, compiled by barrister Brian Barrington, is a damning indictment of human rights abuses that have been suffered by campaigners against Shell over the last four years, and outlines a comprehensive list of recommendations to attempt to improve the situation. The strongest theme which struck this observer upon reading the report was that of the overzealous use of force against protesters by the Gardai and IRMS (security for Shell), and then a very conscious and systematic process of attempting to cover this up through false statements to the media and the compiler of the report. Does this sound like an exaggeration in the over-active imagination of a protester? Read the following, or indeed the original report, and make up your mind then.
