Work was stopped for about three hours on Monday afternoon when people walked out at low tide and got under Shell's drilling platform.

Make a Foreshore Submission to Gormley

We'd like to encourage as many as possible to make foreshore submissions to John Gormley.

Below is a sample submission to John Gormley, Minister for the Environment regarding the Shell's Foreshore Licence Application to construct a 4.9km tunnel that is 4.2 meters in diameter under Sruwaddacon Estuary. 

The deadline for submissions is 5:30pm on the 30th of August.  Email your submissions to foreshore@environ.ie and minister@environ.ie

COMMENT ON THE CORRIB GAS PROJECT IN IRELAND BY A FORMER EMPLOYEE OF SHELL OIL USA.

I don’t quite understand the ‘in your face’ attitude of Shell towards the Irish. I know that there is a bit of history between the Irish and the British, and as a consequence one would think Shell, being an Anglo/Dutch company, would be a little bit more diplomatic. Instead they seem to have treated the Irish like just another third world country. They corrupt the government, try to steal the resources, pay no taxes, and treat the people like crap. Shell is making no friends amongst the Irish and I suppose they don’t care as long as they can manipulate (buy off?) the government.

Resistance continues as Shell to Sea campaigner freed after 118 days in prison

A still defiant Shell to Sea campaigner, Niall Harnett, has been released after spending 118 days in Castlerea prison. On his release Niall announced that "I am going straight back to the Rossport Solidarity Camp to be with my fellow activists and Shell to Sea friends in the local community. We seem to bring out the best in each other, unlike Shell and the Irish government, who bring out the worst in each other."  Niall's release today means that for the first time in many months no Shell to Sea campaigners are in prison, however resistance to Shell still continues in Erris.

Drill huggers stop Shell's drilling work

Yesterday people from the local community of Pullathomas and Rossport and Solidarity campers lead by the rousing sound of a visiting bagpiper and drummer, returned to one of Shell's drilling rigs, gaining access at low tide across the exposed sand bars of Sruwaddacon bay. On arriving at the rig a number of people surrounded the drill casing and danced around it before forming a tight huddle to prevent any further work occurring. Meanwhile others held a large banner and occupied the area while children played in the sand.
