Shell Offices In Belmullet Occupied by Protesters For Two Hours Yesterday

A NUMBER OF SHELL TO SEA SUPPORTERS OCCUPIED THE OFFICES OF SHELL IN THE INDUSTRIAL ESTATE IN BELMULLET FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS YESTERDAY EVENING.
THE GROUP OF MORE THAN 20 PROTESTERS HAD A MEGAPHONE AND WERE CALLING FOR THE RELEASE OF LOCAL FISHERMAN PAT O’DONNELL FROM JAIL IN CASTLEREA.
MR O’DONNELL, A MEMBER OF SHELL TO SEA, IS SERVING A 7 MONTHS PRISON SENTENCE FOR OFFENCES AGAINST THE GARDAI DURING CORRIB GAS DISPUTES.
INITIALLY 2 MEMBERS OF THE PROTESTING GROUP WERE ALLOWED INTO THE SHELL OFFICES AT ABOUT 4 PM YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND THEN ABOUT 4 MORE ENTERED AND OCCUPIED THE OFFICES UNTIL ABOUT 6PM.
NO ARRESTS WERE MADE AND THE GROUP DISPERSED WITHOUT INCIDENT.
