Once again the Irish Film Board is able to announce a healthy presence at the upcoming Toronto film festival. Five films funded by the body will play at the event, which kicks off on September 9th.
The lucky pictures include Risteard Ó Domhnaill’s The Pipe , a documentary about the Corrib natural gas controversy; Tom Hall’s Sensation , a fascinating tale of sex and sleaze; Juanita Wilson’s As If I’m Not There , a drama shot in Macedonia and Sweden and starring Stellan Skarsgård; and (one of several co-productions) Dome Karukoski’s icy feature Lapland Odyssey .
Most intriguingly, Jerzy Skolimowski, the Polish director of classics Deep End and The Shout , returns with a political thriller called Essential Killing , starring Vincent Gallo.
Eclectic. See tiff.net/thefestival.
