"The Government have clearly sent the message to Shell, ‘you can do whatever you want’. Fortunately due to protest, the refinery remains unconnected to the gas field. If, as Shell planned, gas had been flowing by now, we would potentially all be dealing with a gas leak and explosion.”
Up to 20 TDs, along with Dublin Shell to Sea are today calling on the new Government to reverse consents granted to Shell for the onshore section of the Corrib gas pipeline.
The consents were issued despite High Court proceedings initiated by An Taisce and Erris residents against last January's An Bord Pleanála decision to grant permission.
They were controversially granted on the day of the General Election by former Minister Pat Carey.
