Justice Minister warns gardaí he wants 'all the skeletons out of all the cupboards'

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan warned that he wants to see "all the skeletons out of all of the cupboards" in terms of Garda scandals and controversies.

His warning came as Acting Garda Commissioner Donal O'Cualain and Deputy Commissioner John Twomey confirmed that a special review is now underway into the Garda Representative Association (GRA) position that rank-and-file officers did not falsify breath test figures.

Statoil extends outage at Ireland's Corrib gas field to Sept. 28

OSLO, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Norway’s Statoil extended an ongoing reduction in the output of Ireland’s Corrib gas field to Sept. 28 at 0600 CET (0400 GMT) from Sept. 27 at 0600 CET, the company said on its website on Tuesday.

The Corrib field’s output will still be reduced by 9.9 million cubic metres per day. Statoil did not say why the outage was extended. (Reporting by Lefteris Karagiannopoulos, editing by Terje Solsvik)

Corrib flaring ‘frightening’

COMPANIES selling ‘potentially dangerous energy products’ are obliged ‘to ensure that there is no risk to the customer’. That was according to Minister Michael Ring in the aftermath of news breaking last Thursday night about the fact that odourless gas from the Corrib refinery had entered the network for Galway and Mayo. The crisis, which involved a 36-hour flaring operation at the Bellanaboy refinery in order to push the odourless gas back out of the network, has since been resolved as two State inquiries continue into the potentially dangerous situation.

Reasons for gas fault in Galway and Mayo ‘should be made public’

Gas Networks Ireland says it is confident that safe gas has been fully restored throughout Galway and Mayo, following the alert late last week affecting almost 10,000 customers.

The national gas emergency plan was initiated late last week when non-odourised gas was released from the Corrib gas refinery in north Mayo.

Two State investigations initiated into how odourless gas was released into the system

Fully odourised gas has been restored throughout counties Galway and Mayo, Gas Networks Ireland (GNI) has confirmed.

GNI said that all 9,600 customers in counties Galway and Mayo can now use gas safely. It said that customers should ensure all appliances are switched off prior to turning gas supply on.

Two inquiries under way into release of odourless gas at Corrib

€400,000 worth of gas burned off and safe supply restored to some customers

Two State investigations are under way into the release of odourless gas into the natural gas supply in the west of Ireland after a “technical fault” at the Corrib gas refinery.

More than 9,000 customers in counties Galway and Mayo were advised to shut down supplies on Thursday until further notice for safety reasons, and the State’s national gas emergency plan was invoked.

Full investigation into gas supply incident to be held as some houses in Galway back on stream

Update 9.20pm: The independent energy safety regulator, the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) has confirmed that a full investigation into the causes behind non-odourised gas being introduced into the local gas network in the Galway and Mayo Area will take place.

 

The CER has said that the first priority is to restore odourised gas to the affected areas.

 

In a statement it went on: "The CER is actively involved in the Gas Emergency Response Team under the Natural Gas Emergency Plan.
