£5bn for Shell as fuel goes sky high

By:
Steve Hawkes - The Sun

SHELL revealed profits of £37,347 a MINUTE yesterday - as petrol prices soared back to within a PENNY of record levels.

The oil giant raked in an incredible £4.9billion from April to June - up 77 per cent on last year.

Chief executive Peter Voser insisted the petrol price rise was down to sky-high oil prices.

He said Shell made "virtually nothing" on the forecourt - and told motorists to take their complaints to the Government.

Deletion on Corrib tape 'inadvisable', says university

By:
LORNA SIGGINS, Western Correspondent

NUI MAYNOOTH has said that deletion of college research material from a camcorder recording, which is the subject of a continuing Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission investigation, was “inadvisable”.

However, the university said it was “satisfied” that the “individuals concerned” – including academics at the college – were “acting out of concern for student welfare” and a “genuine belief that the particular material deleted was not relevant to the inquiry”.

Profits soar at Shell

By:
Terry Macalister - The Guardian

Profits at Shell soared 77% to nearly £5bn in the last three months, but the oil group said there was little chance of lower prices for motorists, with energy prices due to rise even further in the long term.

Chief executive Peter Voser said there was no point in blaming Shell for high pump prices given that the company made virtually "nothing" on petrol and 60% to 70% of the price for each litre went to the government in taxes.

Shell Works Shut Down for Fourth Day This Week

By:
j debender - Rossport Solidarity Camp - Indymedia

Four separate actions shut down Shell's work all day on Thursday

From 7am to 7pm on Thursday, the road between Shell's Bellanaboy refinery and the Aughoose compound was virtually shut down by local residents and supporters from the Rossport Solidarity Camp. Between a person sat on top of a tractor and then a tripod in the morning, a blockade of the scaffolding company responsible for getting the tripod removed, then a mass of people blocking the road outside the refinery in the afternoon, it was a brilliantly successful day.
