Shell hope for “20 or more Corribs” in Irish waters – WikiLeaks

A SENIOR OFFICIAL from Shell Ireland told the second-in-command of the US delegation to Ireland that his company thought there may be “20 or more” offshore gas fields of the size of the Corrib Gas development, according to a leaked diplomatic cable.

WikiLeaks: Shell’s astonishing revelations about Nigerian corruption

This U.S. diplomatic cable, classified as “secret”, reports on a briefing given to the American Ambassador to Nigeria, Robin R. Sander, in February 2009  by Shell Executive VP, Ann Pickard, now Country Chairman of Shell Australia.

During a discussion of the high level of corruption in Nigeria, Pickard gave as an example, a bribery demand by Nigerian Attorney General Aondoakaa that he would sign a document only if paid $2 million immediately, and another $18 million the next day.

Corrib gas project decision deferred

AN BORD Pleanála has deferred its decision on the penultimate stage of the Corrib gas project until the new year.

The board’s decision on a third pipeline route, submitted by Shell under the Strategic Infrastructure Act, was expected before the end of this month.

The application, which would involve tunnelling under Sruwaddaccon estuary, a special area of conservation, was the subject of an oral hearing that concluded on October 1st.
